Feedback on editing so far

The feedback we received -
  • We needed to edit the colours of more of the clips in order to create the right mood and interpretation that we want to get across to the audience. In order to do this we will have to darken the videos more so that we are able to show that in this particular moment we want the audience to feel bad for the girl as something bad is about to happen. We will contrast this with the happier scenes making them more bright and vibrant in order to create a happier atmosphere.
  • They also said we needed to edit how well Megan is synced with the music and make it look more realistic. We are already aware of this and once we know exactly where we want the correct scenes we will then work on how well it is all synced together.
  • As we only have half our footage we need to start getting together more in order to finish on time, this will be fine as we having a shooting schedule and are aware of when we are doing all of this.

Magazine Article

Here we decided to create and design Luella's magazine article, using inspiration from previous magazines, like Vogue and Hello, using similar interview questions, writing font and layout. We felt that designing this would be a good idea, because it helped to promote our artist further on the website.

Website early stages and development

This is a screenshot of what our website looked like to begin with, we had a rough idea of what we wanted the website to look like, but wasn't completely sure, so we decided to play around with backgrounds, effects, images and animations. We found that the colours were very important, as we wanted to match them with our synergy colour, being a dark red, which is featured throughout not only our music video, but our photoshoots and digipaks also. We decided to make changes to the background, by adding Luella's face, as it instantly grabbed the audience, so that they are aware of who the artist is. We also changed the font to match the album cover and digipak, so that it not only represented the artists style, but also that it was significant and not just random.

We also then added other images from the photo shoot, which we felt gave the website a more professional feel. As well as uploading the album cover for Luella, with social media links and song links, making it seem even more professional. We then wanted to focus on merchandise, making that seem as professional as possible also, by creating personalised accessories and clothing for 'Luella'. Our creativity for this, was that we wanted to keep it as simple as possible, in order to reach out to as wide of a target audience as possible, we also wanted to do a variety of objects, giving the 'fans' more of a variety and choice. We spent a lot of time and effort on the website, and wanted to make it look as professional as possible. We did a variety of website drafts in order to ensure we got the right one.

What went well and what went wrong...

During the designing processes for both our digipak and website, we overcame a variety of obstacles. From, not liking the design visually to technically it not working. When doing the digipak, we discussed the synergy colours that we wanted to use throughout the website, music video and digipak. We decided on the colour and then came up with some artistry, that could potentially be a recurring theme. We battled the idea of having roses or flowers, and then decided that roses in the music video would be a good idea. We then decided to use the reoccurring theme throughout, adding these dark red roses throughout.

Both of us agreed that we weren't technically amazing and skilled, so we decided to spend a lot of times practicing and learning how to become technically amazing.. or at least technically satisfactory. We practiced by opening and looking at a lot of websites and playing around with the tools. We then researched on YouTube how to edit on 'wix' , the site that we used for our websites. We found that this was extremely helpful, as it allowed us to understand how to move text, edit font, add transitions and animations, input images, input pages and change backgrounds and colours, as well a creating your own website theme. This allowed us to make our website as professional as possible.

Below is an image of us editing the website using the website 'wix' :

The site that we used to create the digipak was PowerPoint. This made it extremely easy for us to create the digipak, as it was a software that both of us were extremely familiar with.

Other website analysis

Above is a link to Ellie Goulding's official website. We both really liked the look of Ellie's website. We liked how you could see her face throughout the website, as a constant reminder and advertisement of the artist. We also liked a shot of Ellie closing her eyes, and felt that this would look good on our website. For example :

We really liked the black and white theme, something which we are thinking of including in our official music video.

Above is the link for Jessie J's website. We really liked the theme that Jessie J includes gold throughout her imagery, and then also on the website. We felt that this portrayed and displayed the synergy well, something which is vital throughout the artist's website, music video and digipak.

Merchandise

As you can see when creating our merchandise we decided to have our 'Luella' logo on all of the items, followed by our iconic red rose. Highlighting our synergy and our artist throughout. We have also used a variation of different items so that our audience have a wide range of things to choose from.

Artist Logo / Trademark

Following our research we decided we needed an original look for Luella's Logo. Therefore we designed the one above. It may look basic but the simple things such as the grey part of the E and the missing line on the A make the look of it different.

'Explosions'- Ellie Goulding
We decided to use Ellie Goulding for this as we found she was a really good inspiration and role model that we liked to follow regarding Luellas look and way she performs. Ellie comes across as an everyday normal girl and not so much a celebrity. This is exactly how we wanted Luella to come across as. We also like the black and white effect from these shots as we wanted to add in a few black and white scenes into our music video to create a different effect, rather than just all normal colour.

0-2 seconds- Ellie casually sitting on the train.

3-5 seconds- Natural shot of Ellie laughing.

6-10 seconds- About to perform

11-12 seconds- The crowd going wild.

13-15 seconds- Ellie singing to everyone.

16-18 seconds- Swapping back to her singing alone and not in front of a crowd.

19-20 seconds- Going back to the live performance.

I have learnt how many changes a music video should have and from this, it will help me to apply this to mine and Megan's music video. We now know that having the same thing on screen for too long can be boring and we want the audience to be engaged in the video and not want to take their eyes off of it. A variation of different clips also keeps the audience wondering what is going to happen next, we do not want the audience to guess or expect what will happen next. We want the unknown.
